Gum disease develops when plaque accumulates in your mouth, usually because of insufficient dental hygiene. Other risk factors include genetics, age, teeth grinding, or smoking. Gum disease causes red or swollen gums, bleeding during brushing, longer-looking teeth, and bad breath. Not sure if you’re experiencing gum disease? We can easily identify it during an exam and help you take the next best steps.
Treatment
Our primary focus is on disease prevention by educating our patients about the most effective ways to take care of their teeth and mouth. However, if you do need treatment for moderate or severe gum disease, we’re ready to help with a deep cleaning.
We first remove the plaque from the pockets between the gums and teeth, then smooth the roots to help prevent future buildup and help the gums reattach to the teeth. Treating gum disease early can prevent tooth loss and keep the infection from spreading.
